Espelho Beach in Bahia

The Espelho Beach was elected many times and by different publications one of the most beautiful in Brazil. Well, it doesn’t get its fame by chance: its deep blue sea, the corals, the wonderful cliffs, the wild nature and the white sandy beach provide an unforgettable landscape.

The Espelho Beach is a destination in constantly changing. Visiting the place during high tide will make you fall in love with the colours and the contrast between the huge cliffs and the sea. On the other hand, visiting during low tide, when natural pools forms around there, will understand why this is one of the most fascinating beaches in the world. During the full moon, the silver reflection on the calm water of the sea reveals more than a just surprise.

Over the Espelho, there are no cars, it’s not crowded and peace is guaranteed by law (the beach is at an Environmental Protection Area). More than the sea, it is also possible to enjoy all of the nature of the Atlantic Forest, such as the restinga, which is a type of moist broadleaf forest found in eastern Brazil, the mangrove as well as to amaze oneself with the wildlife, as the place is of turtle spawning and the beach is quite often full of them.

Where does the Espelho name came from?

The name came from the natural pools of blue-green tone that forms when the tide is low. At this moment, the sea turns into a gigantic mirror (espelho) and you can even see many turtles that also come to enjoy the tranquility of the beach. In order to enjoy this phenomenon, don’t forget to check the Tide Table.

When to visit the Espelho Beach?

As most of the beaches in the northeastern Brazil, it will be sunny throughout the whole year. However, from September to November, the temperature is milder and it rains substantially between June and July.
